Ok been a while for this thread
two updates ... gave in eventually and rooted the S2 to Jellybean the ressurection remix JB rom

, although a nightly rom it is BRILLIANT !! super stable, battery life is fantastic .. and yes google now is on the device also which is quite amusing if you use your calender , sat nav etc etc . The main reason for rooting the device was after the upgrade to ICS i found the phone jammed frequently ie: running advanced task killer the whole system would hang for an age sometimes freeze the phone , i know this is app related but is just one example of things that kept going wrong . Samsung pull up your socks !! the battery life was no better on ICS if anything a tad worse than gingerbread max 5/7 hrs with normal usage .
Rooting the device was amazingly simple and basically virtually impossible to kill the device Odin is simple clean and super effective you cant go wrong , basically its noob proof , got clockwork mod installed and followed the usual steps albeit in a different order to doing things and loaded the rom , pls pls pls if you ever root a device do a nandroid backup first !!! saves alot of hassle incase the rom you have downloaded has a problem you can go back to your original rom .
So yes thats the S2 sorted with no issues whatsoever and running super smooth
Now .... My HTC One x ... yes i've dropped it scratched it ( im a tradesman !! what do you expect ) and it has suffered some abuse from myself , basically i know the warranty would be gone lol :) i Have rooted it ......
Rooting a One X is to say the least difficult , time consuming and very very tetchy if you get it wrong as the device will die completely ie: paperweight . Suffice to say after ALOT of reading , a printing out the noob guides and doing it like a five year old learning to draw i started and went through the whole process .This starts at the HTCdev . com site were you have to register then unlock your bootloader simple enough yeah ?? erm no !! i cant remember the whole process but thankfully my PC knowledge of DOS ( yes i used it before Windows was created !! ) was essential as you have to follow a series of sequences with the phone plugged unplugged typing in old DOS commands to write to the phone , install boot images new kernels etc etc etc before even attempting to load the rom . During this process one mistake can be fatal ie : misspelling a word to send a command to the phone . So if you want to root the One X pls PM me or ask here i will send you the correct info i acquired up to do it .
So onto the rom itself finally !! loaded the Maximus Rom

which is the "official" HTC upgrade rom that has been leaked ie: Jellybean with Sense 4.1 . It is to say the least blisteringly amazing super stable im getting 2.5 days battery life !!! and the animations etc are simply brilliant it is literally buttery smooth no hassles whatsoever im thankful as i felt ICS was unpolished had to many faults that needed addressing as with the S2 .
All in all a happy bunny . glad ive done it but my one x was a pain to root .
