Well, to be honest, I was making an assumption that Rectron still had fingerprint scanners on its pricelist. I recall that they were on the list a while back, but I haven't looked for them recently.

Still, even if Rectron doesn't have them, one (or more) of the other suppliers should.

And by 'cheap' I meant in the region of R800 or maybe a bit less. Which, considering the fact that you're getting fingerprint identification technology, is pretty cheap. Maybe prices have dropped since then...

My company makes use of biometric solutions, so I should be able to check into it (acquisitions department) and get back to you.

Hey mat, did you have to code it using a text based interface only, or were you allowed to program a GUI?

I remember back when I was at school, with Java we weren't allowed to program a GUI for our tests and exams - things might have changed this year

We can do GUI for the PAT... Just not encouraged for tests and exams...
(JOptionPane is fine tho =)

Sure, why not.

Anyway, just checked with acquisitions department, seems our local (normal) supply channels no longer stock Fingerprint Scanners.

Our company resells them along with a customised software solution. But we buy specialised units that cost in excess of two grand...
