But I could be wrong![]()
Maybe they're using that in lots of games these days. Cos it looks kewl.

The wiki (and the Larry Niven's Ringworld link on that page) show that these rings can be around worlds, or not. I haven't played all the way through all the Halo games, but I've seen an image from either Halo 1 or Halo 2 where a halo construct is around a planet. I guess that's where I got it from. I haven't been able to find that precise image yet though...

The "Ringworld" of Halo is much smaller than Larry Niven's Ringworld. While the diameter of Niven's ring world is close to the diameter of Earth's orbital of 300,000,000 km (Able to rival the sun in surface area), the 10,000 km diameter of Halo is much closer to the diameter of Earth itself, which is 12,756 km. Ringworld has a star similar to our sun in its center, and Halo is orbiting a planet, but does not encircle it. Alpha Halo is positioned in the 1st Lagrangian point between Threshold and its moon Basis.
There is a Ringworld-like structure in the Tre'illica system in the video game Escape Velocity Nova; also, in the game, Earth has a ring structure built around its equator.
In the game Space Empires it is possible for players to create a Ringworld around a star using Stellar Technology.
Actually, I think you may have found a different Wiki article. I've fixed my original post to include a valid URL (PCD doesn't accept URLs that have brackets in them). Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/cbs576 Suffice to say, I saw promo art for Halo with a man-made circle around a planet. That's what I thought of when I saw the image posted earlier in this thread. I guess it's neither here nor there :)This is what you might be thinking of:
