Hi,
So i've just purchased a little 32gb SSD i'd like to install Windows 7 and my music production software - Ableton (Roughly 4gbs) on the drive the only problem is once i put it in my pc it was automatically set as my primary drive and after installing windows 7 Ultimate (64Bit) the SSD only has 2gb free - and the pc seems to be running as if no drivers are installed?
Is there a way to set up the SSD so that i just have Windows 7 and Ableton installed on it and everything else on my other drivers?
Regards
You might want to check the system requirements:
Windows 7 system requirements
If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:
1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Ableton:
Required disk space for basic installation:
3GB free disk space.
Required disk space if all included sounds are installed:
Live 9 Suite: 55 GB free disk space
Live 9 Standard: 12 GB free disk space
Live 9 Intro: 6 GB free disk space
Drivers will be installed to your Windows installation and cannot be installed on another drive. Program Files however can be installed on another drive/partition. The paging file will also use space depending on the amount of RAM installed. Paging files can also be configured to run on another drive/partition, but this is not recommended.
Mmm what would you recommend that i do then?
I currently only have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on the SSD with my graphic card drivers - but the pc is running as if no drivers are installed?
Should i reinstall all my drivers on the SSD?
Little confused about what i should do exactly - Its alright if i only have windows on the SSD though - the pc boots super fast with it installed
Check device manager for drivers not installed. SSD are very fast compared to normal desktop drives. In many cases Windows will install all the required drivers if an open Internet connection is available and Windows updates are enabled.
How do i get program files etc on a seperate drive?
The second drive/partition in you system in most cases will have a drive letter D: except if this was added after the cd-rom/dvd-rom drive. None the less making sure what the drive letter is of the additional drive, just choose custom install when installing programs and point it to E:\program files\ or E:\program files (x86)\ for example if your drive letter is E:.
